Shaelyn Fitzpatrick is the Injury Prevention Educator with the Centre for Injury Prevention at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. In her role, Shaelyn is responsible for the development, delivery, and evaluation of injury prevention education programs and communication. Shaelyn is a Registered Nurse by training with experience in both trauma and Public Health.

Corey Freedman is the Manager of Trauma Services at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. In his role, Corey leads teams and initiatives related to performance improvement and patient safety, data capture and analysis, the Centre for Injury Prevention, and more. Corey is a trained paramedic and holds a Masters in Health Informatics.

Dr. Barbara Haas is trauma surgeon and ICU physician at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. In addition, she holds positions as Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto, as a Scientist at the Sunnybrook Research Institute, and as an Adjunct Scientist at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES). Dr. Haas is the Trauma Education Lead at Sunnybrook.

Dr. Arshia Javidan is a vascular surgery resident at the University of Toronto. He joined the STOP THE BLEED® team at Sunnybrook in 2018, where he has been involved as a course instructor and recruitment of student and resident instructors. During medical school at the University of Toronto, he also undertook a MSc in System Leadership and Innovation through the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation. His research interests include health systems design and change, applications of artificial intelligence in medicine and surgery, and medical education.

Andrew Lim is the MSK Trauma Physician Assistant for Orthopaedic Surgery at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. As a member of the Code Trauma team, he works alongside other members of the team to deliver high quality care to our acute trauma patients. He has clinical and research interests in damage control orthopaedics and surgical ethics.

Dr. Luis da Luz is a Staff Physician and Head Trauma Team Leader at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center and Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Toronto. His clinical and research interest are trauma resuscitation, trauma induced coagulopathy and trauma team performance.

John Mason is an Advanced Care Tactical Paramedic with Toronto Paramedic Services Special Operations and actively serves as a Sergeant Medical Technician with the Canadian Armed Forces. John enjoys camping and mountain biking on his time off. John takes the opportunity to pass along his experience to as many people as possible (including his children), in the hopes that they will have the skills and knowledge to help when needed. John is currently studying Critical Care Transport Medicine.

Dee Naidu completed her Physician Assistant education and training at McMaster University in the fourth graduating class of 2013. Since joining the Sunnybrook team in the Division of General Surgery, she has helped to pave the path for the PA profession through her leadership role as Professional Lead of the Physician Assistant group. Dee's clinical work has inspired her to pursue a Masters Degree in Public Health to connect the gap between patients and their communities. As part of her degree, Dee is concurrently fulfilling a practicum placement with Sunnybrook's Centre for Injury Prevention, working closely with the P.A.R.T.Y. Program and STOP THE BLEED®.

Dr. Avery Nathens is currently the Chief of Surgery and the Trauma Medical Director at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Canada’s largest Level 1 trauma centre and Professor of Surgery at the University of Toronto. He is a general surgeon with a focus on trauma care, performance improvement, and health system design. He is Medical Director of Trauma Quality Programs of the American College of Surgeons. His research interests include trauma system effectiveness and quality of trauma care. He holds the DeSouza Chair in Trauma Research and has published over 400 peer-reviewed manuscripts including many landmark works on trauma care in Lancet, NEJM and JAMA. He has been the recipient of several million dollars of research funding from the NIH, Canadian Institutes of Health Research and many other agencies.

Julie Nardi is a Performance Improvement Coordinator in the Tory Trauma Program at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. In her current role, she collaborates with teams across the program to advance performance and quality improvement initiatives. Julie is a Registered Respiratory Therapist with experience working in trauma and critical care. She holds a Master of Science in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety from the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto.

Thao Sindall has been an Emergency/Trauma nurse at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre since 2005 and still continues to find passion in providing care for patients and their families in the most vulnerable moments. She has been an active member of the Injury Prevention program for her entire career and joined the STOP THE BLEED® team in 2018. She also holds a leadership role in the Emergency Department as a Clinical Care Leader. Thao’s clinical interests include continued learning and professional development with a strong focus on peer mentorship and promotion of best practice guidelines.

Dr. Bourke Tillmann is a Clinical Associate in Critical Care Medicine and a Trauma Team Leader at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. He is currently studying health care resource utilization at the Institute of Health Policy, Management, and Evaluation with a focus on trauma systems. His clinical interests include intensive care, trauma, and cardiac arrest.
